How To Save Money On Your Kitchen Remodel

A kitchen remodel can be extremely expensive. However, you may be required to remodel the kitchen if you are selling your house or the kitchen is simply that outdated. When you've committed to a remodel, here are some tips on how to save money throughout the process:

1. Stick with the original layout if possible

Some remodels require moving major appliances and changing the entire format of your kitchen. This can be very time consuming and expensive, especially when plumbing is involved. Only change the layout if absolutely necessary.

2. Paint instead of getting brand new cabinets

If your cabinets are structurally intact, why would you replace them all? Instead, consider painting them. White or another light color can help lighten up the room and make it look bigger. If you can do the painting yourself, you'll save even more money!

If the cabinets have considerable damage, you will have to replace them. Try opting for ready-to-install cabinets instead of custom cabinets. You can even look into open shelving!

3. Have a plan

Don't start a remodel until you are absolutely sure of the outcome. Make sure you have definite answers to all decisions that you will have to make. This will help you explain what you want to the contractor. If you are forced to make rash decisions during the renovation, it can get costly. Have a plan ahead of time.

4. Plan for the unexpected

While it's important to have a plan, you also have to be prepared for when that plan doesn't work out as you expected. Like any construction project, there will be unexpected charges. Always save a little bit in your budget for these scenarios.

5. Spruce up the floor

You don't have to get a brand new floor if it's not necessary. Try replacing bad tiles with new ones or refinishing a wooden floor.

6. Prioritize

Certain repairs are more necessary than others. Decide what repairs are absolutely necessary and which ones can wait. If you end up going over your budget, you can put off some of the less necessary repairs until another time.

7. Shop around

Get detailed quotes from multiple kitchen remodeling services before making your decision. After you get your quotes, be sure to research the company that you want to go with. Read reviews and talk to people who have used them in the past. The cheapest option is not always the best.
